Good Beer Hunting

May 2, 2018 (CBC) — Pulling Threads panel discussion

Some of the best stories are like June 12, 1970, the day major league baseball pitcher Dock Ellis threw a no-hitter on LSD. Taken at face value, without context, it’s completely formulaic and tidy—a rare, memorable example of our national pastime. Just one especially great night amongst hundreds of thousands of games.

But if you know the story behind the story, or ask the right questions to get there, or hang around a little longer than you should, or find that person with an interesting perspective, or keep making calls until the thread of conventional wisdom finally unravels, you might just end up with something as thrilling and unusual as a man defying the odds in front of millions of people while under the influence of hallucinogens.

Join us as we bring together professionals from myriad walks of life—a curious podcaster, an intrepid alt-weekly journalist, a charming musician, and two weird guys from Good Beer Hunting—to have an insightful and perhaps-rowdy discussion about what it takes to produce stories that matter.

PANELISTS
Amanda Haggard, staff writer at the Nashville Scene
Jakob Lewis, creator and host of the Neighbors podcast (You may remember Jakob from episode 027 of the GBH podcast.)
Tristen, singer-songwriter
Austin L. Ray, editorial director of Good Beer Hunting
